University of Illinois Senior Capstone Project UI/UX Application
The goal of my capstone project is to spark joy to individuals who feel isolated or lonely for many different reasons. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have been struggling with a lack of human interaction. In order to resolve this issue, I created a solution that will promote interaction among friends. My project is an app called “Shine” that allows individuals to connect with friends through virtual activities, therefore improving one’s mental health and overall happiness.
research
To conduct my research, I created a questionnaire. I asked questions regarding people’s experience with loneliness and isolation since the pandemic began. I received 18 responses.
Below is the list of questions I asked participants.
After compiling all responses from the questionnaire, I learned that 100% of the respondents have felt isolated since the pandemic began. The respondents said that they would like to see a design that encompasses community, regular connection, talking genuinely with friends, and personalized messages. Also, when asked what brings them joy in life, I received responses such as art, music, nature, spending time with loved ones, and having passions and interests. These responses led me to create an app that allows humans to safely interact with friends even if they are separated by distance. The app called "Shine" consists of a section to connect with friends and complete personalized activities, a calendar to stay organized, and an activities section with numerous ways to spend time with friends.
